The Digital Profession has launched a campaign to recruit new members and build awareness of the Profession.

We invited a group of digital leaders from across the Australian Public Service (APS) and industry to talk about the importance of digital. Each leader recorded a short video with a personal reflection on the importance of digital and how it is important to their agency or industry.

Peter Woolcott AO

Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) Commissioner

Peter is the Australian Public Service Commissioner. He has had a distinguished career in the Australian Public Service, serving in senior diplomatic positions around the world. He served as Australia’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ambassador for the Environment, Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and Ambassador for Disarmament, Ambassador for People Smuggling Issues and Ambassador to Italy. Most recently he served as Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull. He was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia in 2017 for his distinguished service to public administration in the field of international relations, and as a lead negotiator in the non-proliferation and arms control fields.

Randall Brugeaud

Chief Executive Officer of Digital Transformation Agency (DTA)

Randall was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the DTA on 1 July 2018. Randall has spent more than 30 years working in a range of public and private sector roles, with a focus on transformation. His public sector experience has spanned large, medium, and small organisations. Randall’s private sector experience includes more than a decade working with the Boston Consulting Group and a private IT consulting firm, which he founded and operated. Before joining the DTA, Randall was Deputy Australian Statistician and Chief Operating Officer at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Before that he was Chief Information Officer at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. Randall holds a Master of Business Administration, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Computing and a Bachelor of Education. He is also a Senior Executive Fellow of the Harvard Kennedy School.

Thinking about a digital-ready future | Randall Brugeaud

Rachel Noble PSM

Director-General, Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)

Rachel Noble is the Director-General of ASD – the first woman to hold the position. During her 20 years in the public sector, she has held senior positions in national security, risk assessment and intelligence. She has been the head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and the National Director Intelligence and Chief Information Officer in the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). She has deep experience and strong technical expertise in relation to cyber security and the vital role digital technologies have in monitoring and assuring Australia’s safety from internal and external threats.

Jacqui Curtis

Head of the HR Profession and Chief Operating Officer, Australian Taxation Office

Jacqui leads the ATO’s Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Operations functions. Jacqui is responsible for shaping and setting strategic direction and oversight implementation at the ATO. Part of her role as COO will be to ensure the ATO has the right capability and culture to meet the organisation’s strategic intent. Jackie has held several senior executive and change management roles in the public sector, including Deputy Commissioner (ATO) and General Manager of the People Capability Division (Department of Human Services). At the APSC, her role was focused on talent, leadership, and learning and development.

Developing a digital-ready mindset | Jacqui Curtis

Dr David Gruen

Head of the Data Profession and Australian Statistician, Australian Bureau of Statistics

As Agency Head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, David is accountable for the functions and operations of the Bureau. David was previously the Deputy Secretary, Economic and Australia’s G20 Sherpa at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He has extensive experience in economics and data, working as the Executive Director of the Macroeconomic Group (Australian Treasury) and as the Head of the Economic Research Department (Reserve Bank of Australia). Prior to this, David worked as a research scientist in the Research School of Physical Sciences at the Australian National University. David holds PhD degrees in physiology from Cambridge University, England and in economics from the Australian National University.

Digital ready is digital first | David Gruen

Jade Carson

Schools ICT Program Management, Department of Educations, Skills and Employment (DESE) and 2020 WIC Woman of the Year

Jade is an experienced public servant who can build business capabilities and challenge the status quo to drive business outcomes. She works to improve public services through good design and process improvement, with a strong focus on achieving business outcomes in government digital projects. Before her current position she was Chief Information Officer at the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

Jade was named the 2020 WIC Woman of the Year at WIC Women in ICT. She is currently an ANU PHD candidate researching the progression of women into leadership positions in ICT within the Australian Public Service.

Ron Gauci

Chief Executive Officer, Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA)

Ron is the CEO of the AIIA. He is known as the ‘go-to’ executive and has a track record of delivering significant growth, business transformation, good governance, asset leverage, and quality leadership. He is recognised as an inspirational leader with a reputation for getting the best out of his teams and getting things done. Ron has an innate ability to guide organisations to realise their potential. He has held various leadership roles in both public and private organisations.

Beth Worrall

National Skills Program Lead for Microsoft

Beth has held senior roles in wide range of industries, such as technology, banking, health, government and social entrepreneurship. Her roles have primarily been in communications, corporate responsibility and sustainability. She is passionate about the future of work and the potential of technology to improve the lives and livelihood of women and girls.
